For a Schengen visa application

The issued policy should cover the full intended stay and relevant Schengen territory and meet the applicable travel-medical-insurance requirements. Final eligibility, premium and certificate wording are confirmed by the insurer.

This calculator does not submit your date of birth or travel dates to SchengenSure. Calculations run in your browser.

How we estimate your price

The calculator uses your age, inclusive trip length, the providers’ published rates, minimum premiums and applicable fees. The result is an estimate for one traveller; the insurer confirms the final premium and eligibility.

Rates last checked: September 2026.

View calculation details and published base rates

The calculator counts every calendar day from the selected start date through the selected end date. Age is calculated at departure, and the relevant published age band is then applied.

Published base rates used by the calculator
ProviderThrough age 6465+ / 65–74Minimum / fee
DR-WALTER€1.10/day€6.50/day€20.00 minimum + €9.40 fee
HanseMerkur€1.20/day€2.50/day (65–74)€10.00 minimum

Turning 65 changes the published premium band for both visitor plans. HanseMerkur’s public documents contain conflicting wording around age 75, so the calculator does not invent a price and instead asks the traveller to confirm eligibility with the insurer.

Schengen visa insurance cost calculator FAQs

How much does Schengen visa insurance cost?

The price depends mainly on trip length, age, provider rates, minimum premiums and any processing fee. Enter your age and travel dates above for an estimate based on the published rates configured in this calculator.

Are the displayed prices guaranteed?

No. They are estimates based on published rates for one person. The insurer confirms the final price, eligibility, exclusions and optional cover before purchase.

Does age change the insurance price?

Yes. Both visitor plans use a higher published daily premium from age 65. DR-WALTER publishes a 65+ rate without an upper age limit for this product; HanseMerkur publishes a 65–74 rate and has conflicting public wording at age 75.

How are the travel days calculated?

The calculator counts both the travel start date and travel end date. For example, a trip from 1 October through 15 October contains 15 insured calendar days.

Does the policy need to cover every day of my Schengen trip?

For a visa application, the issued certificate should cover the intended travel period and relevant territory. Check that the dates on the certificate match the dates used in your application.

Why can the final insurer price differ from this estimate?

Providers can change tariffs, eligibility or fees, and the insurer’s checkout determines the binding premium. Always verify the final quote and policy certificate before relying on it for a visa application.

Does buying insurance guarantee a Schengen visa?

No. Travel medical insurance is only one part of the application. The consulate evaluates the complete application and the issued insurance certificate.
